This fall charcuterie board brings together creamy cheeses, savory meats, crisp apples and pears, and a few pumpkin shaped truffles for a seasonal appetizer that’s easy to assemble. A hollowed out mini pumpkin filled with green olives adds a festive touch for fall gatherings, Friendsgiving, or Thanksgiving.

Fall charcuterie board with Brie, cranberry goat cheese, cured meats, apples, grapes, pumpkin chocolates, and olives in a mini white pumpkin.

One of my favorite parts of hosting is setting out something people can graze on while the rest of the meal comes together. A charcuterie board gives everyone a little something to enjoy, and I love that I can prep most of it ahead of time without turning on the oven.

For this board, I used cranberry goat cheese, chunks of cheddar, Brie, and three kinds of cured meat, then tucked in Honeycrisp apples, pears, grapes, and pomegranate seeds. The colors feel like fall without needing much extra decorating.

I bought most of my ingredients at Trader Joe’s and found the pumpkin chocolate truffles at Aldi. You can recreate this board with ingredients from your favorite grocery store, though. Below, I’m sharing everything I used, easy substitutions, and the order I follow when arranging it.

Why You’ll Love This Fall Charcuterie Board

  • No cooking required. Most of the prep is slicing fruit, portioning cheese, and arranging the ingredients.
  • Easy to customize. Choose your favorite cheeses, swap the jam, or simplify the selection for a smaller gathering.
  • A mix of sweet and savory. Salty meats and olives balance the fresh fruit, creamy cheese, and chocolate.
  • Perfect for fall entertaining. Serve it for a casual evening with friends, a fall party, or an appetizer before Thanksgiving dinner.

What to Put on a Fall Charcuterie Board

The key is choosing a variety of flavors and textures. You don’t need every ingredient on this list to make a beautiful board, use it as a starting point.

Cheese

I used four cheeses so there would be a mix of creamy, crumbly, mild, and spicy options.

Brie: Cut half a small wheel into triangles and arrange the wedges in a semicircle.

Unexpected Cheddar: I used Trader Joe’s Unexpected Cheddar, which combines aged cheddar flavor with a Parmesan like bite. Its crumbly texture makes it easy to break into rustic chunks for the board. Look for a firm, aged white cheddar if you need a substitute.

Cranberry goat cheese: This creamy, tangy goat cheese is rolled in dried cranberries, adding a little sweetness and a beautiful deep red color. If you can’t find it, roll a plain goat cheese log in chopped dried cranberries.

Cheddar with Scotch bonnet chili and red peppers: This was my spicy cheese, also broken into chunks. Substitute pepper Jack or another spicy cheddar, or use Gouda if you prefer something milder. If using pepper Jack, cut it into cubes or slices rather than breaking it into chunks.

You can simplify the board with just three cheeses: a creamy cheese, a firm cheese, and one extra variety you love.

Other cheeses to try: Manchego, aged Gouda, sharp white cheddar, and blue cheese are all delicious options for a fall charcuterie board. Manchego adds a nutty flavor, Gouda pairs beautifully with apples and pears, and blue cheese is delicious with honey or fig jam. Choose a mix of firm, creamy, and crumbly cheeses for variety.

Cured Meats

I used:

  • Sliced Italian dry salami
  • Thinly sliced prosciutto
  • Sliced pepperoni

Each one is arranged a little differently. Overlapping salami slices make a curved line, folded pepperoni adds height, and loosely gathered prosciutto fills the spaces between the cheeses.

There’s no need to make elaborate meat roses. A few simple folds give the board plenty of movement and texture.

Fresh Fruit

Red seedless grapes: Trim the grapes into clusters that fit the open spaces on your board so guests can pick off a few at a time.

Honeycrisp apples: Their crisp texture and sweetness pair well with cheddar and Brie. Thin slices also give you a pretty red edge to repeat around the board.

Pears: Choose a ripe but firm pear that holds its shape when sliced.

Pomegranate seeds: Sprinkle them into a few gaps and over some of the Brie for little pops of color.

Slice the apples and pears close to serving so they look their freshest.

Olives and Artichokes

I used grilled, pitted green olives and marinated artichoke hearts for something briny to balance the cheese and fruit.

Drain both well before adding them. Keep the artichokes in a small bowl or jar so the marinade doesn’t soak into nearby crackers.

Jam or Honey

I used cherry jam, but you can substitute:

  • Fig jam
  • Strawberry jam
  • Raspberry jam
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Honey

Choose one spread you enjoy with your cheeses. Cherry jam with Brie or aged cheddar is an easy place to start.

Serve it in a small bowl with a spoon or spreader.

Crackers

I used pita crackers and fig and olive crisps for two different textures.

Arrange some on the board and keep extras in a bowl or basket nearby. Crackers tend to go quickly, and serving more on the side keeps the board from feeling crowded.

Pumpkin Chocolates

The pumpkin chocolate truffles pictured on my board came from Aldi. Trader Joe’s also has a harvest chocolate assortment you can look for, although seasonal selections may vary.

Place the chocolates into a few open spaces at the end. They add a sweet bite and double as an edible fall decoration.

How to Serve Olives in a Mini Pumpkin

A mini white pumpkin makes a simple seasonal serving vessel for the olives. Choose a small edible pumpkin from the produce section. Wash and dry the outside, then carefully cut off the top on a stable cutting surface. Scoop out the seeds and stringy center.

I lined the inside with food safe plastic wrap before adding the drained olives. Tuck the wrap neatly inside the opening. You can also place a small food safe bowl inside the hollowed pumpkin if you have one that fits.

Set the filled pumpkin near the center of your board and arrange the other ingredients around it.

How to Make a Fall Charcuterie Board

1. Start with the Pumpkin and Small Bowls

Place the pumpkin filled with olives near the center of a clean, food safe serving board or tray.

Add the bowls of artichokes and jam in separate areas. These larger pieces give you a starting point and help divide the board into smaller spaces to fill.

2. Arrange the Meats and Cheeses

Add the meats and cheeses a little at a time, alternating between them as you fill the spaces around the pumpkin and bowls. There’s no strict order, work with the space you have.

Overlap the salami slices in a curve. Fold the pepperoni in half, or into quarters if using large slices, then nestle the pieces together. Loosely gather the prosciutto into folds.

Arrange the triangles from half a wheel of Brie in a semicircle, place the cranberry goat cheese toward another edge, and add the two cheddars in separate piles.

I like breaking the cheddar into rustic chunks. The uneven pieces add texture alongside the creamy cheeses and folded meats.

Let the ingredients curve around one another, leaving room for the fruit and crackers.

3. Add the Fruit

Fan the apple and pear slices into open spaces, then add small bunches of grapes in a few areas around the board.

Repeating the fruit in more than one spot helps spread the color throughout the arrangement.

4. Tuck in the Crackers

Arrange the pita crackers overlapping along the edges and place the fig and olive crisps in smaller openings.

Keep crackers away from wet ingredients so they stay crisp.

5. Add the Finishing Touches

Scatter pomegranate seeds into a few gaps and over some of the Brie.

Finish with the pumpkin chocolate truffles, placing them on top where guests can see and easily pick them up.

Set out cheese knives, small spoons, appetizer plates, and napkins before serving.

How Much Charcuterie Per Person?

How much you’ll need depends on whether the board is an appetizer or the main meal.

Use the following amounts as a flexible planning guide for adults. Adjust for appetites, the length of your gathering, and how much other food you’re serving.

IngredientAppetizer before a mealMain meal or grazing dinner
Cheese1–2 ounces per person3–4 ounces per person
Cured meats1–2 ounces per person3–4 ounces per person
Crackers or breadAbout 1 ounce per personAbout 2 ounces per person
Fresh fruitAbout 1/2 cup per personAbout 1 cup per person

The cheese and meat amounts are totals across all varieties. If you’re planning 16 ounces of cheese, divide that amount among your selected cheeses.

For a Thanksgiving appetizer before a large meal, start at the lower end of the ranges. For a grazing dinner, use the higher amounts and include generous accompaniments such as bread, vegetables, and dips.

An Easy Appetizer Shopping Guide

Using a middle of the range estimate of 1½ ounces each of cheese and meat per person, here’s a starting point:

Number of guestsTotal cheeseTotal cured meatsCrackers or breadFresh fruit
69 ounces9 ounces6 ounces3 cups
812 ounces12 ounces8 ounces4 cups
1218 ounces18 ounces12 ounces6 cups
1624 ounces24 ounces16 ounces8 cups

Round up to convenient package sizes when shopping. Add olives, artichokes, jam, and chocolates as accompaniments rather than trying to measure an exact portion of every item for each guest.

You also don’t need to fit everything onto the board at once. Keep extra meats and cheeses refrigerated, then replenish as needed.

Tips for a Beautiful Fall Charcuterie Board

Arrange ingredients in generous clusters. A pile of cheddar or a small bunch of grapes gives the board more shape than spreading everything into a thin layer.

Repeat colors. Red apple skins, grapes, cranberry goat cheese, and pomegranate seeds help connect the different sections.

Make serving easy. Slice the Brie, break up the cheddar, and cut the fruit before guests arrive.

Keep the crackers dry. Small bowls contain the jam and marinated ingredients, while extra crackers can stay in a basket nearby.

Use the food as decoration. The fruit, white pumpkin, and pumpkin chocolates provide plenty of seasonal detail. Keep flowers and other table decorations outside the food.

Can You Make a Charcuterie Board Ahead of Time?

You can prepare much of it earlier in the day.

Wash and thoroughly dry the grapes, drain the olives and artichokes, portion the jam, and prepare the meats and cheeses. Cover and refrigerate ingredients that need to stay cold.

If your board fits in the refrigerator, you can arrange the meats, cheeses, and small bowls ahead of time and cover it.

Wait until close to serving to add:

  • Freshly sliced apples and pears
  • Crackers
  • Pumpkin chocolates

This keeps the fruit looking fresh and the crackers crunchy.

Keep perishable ingredients refrigerated until you’re ready to assemble and serve. Limit their total time at room temperature, including preparation and display, to two hours or one hour if the temperature is above 90°F.

For a longer gathering, put out smaller portions and replenish with chilled ingredients. Discard perishables that exceed those time limits.

Trader Joe’s Shopping Notes

Most of the ingredients for my board came from Trader Joe’s, including the Unexpected Cheddar and cheddar with Scotch bonnet chili and red peppers.

Don’t worry if you can’t find every exact product. Seasonal selections change, and the board works with substitutions. Focus on a few different cheese textures, your favorite cured meats, fresh fall fruit, and something crunchy.

FAQs

What makes a charcuterie board feel like fall?

Seasonal fruit and a few thoughtful details go a long way. Apples, pears, grapes, cranberry goat cheese, a mini pumpkin, and pumpkin shaped chocolates give this board its fall look.

Do I need four kinds of cheese?

No. Two or three cheeses are enough for a smaller board. Choose different textures, such as creamy Brie and firm cheddar, then add another favorite if you’d like.

Can I serve this for Thanksgiving?

Yes! Serve it as a Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving appetizer while the rest of the meal comes together. Use the lighter serving estimates if a big dinner will follow.

What can I use instead of cherry jam?

Fig, strawberry, or raspberry jam, cranberry sauce, and honey all work. Choose one that complements the cheeses you’re serving.

What if I don’t have a charcuterie board?

Use a large food safe platter or serving tray. A rimmed tray is especially helpful for keeping crackers and small ingredients contained.

How do I make a smaller version?

Choose two or three cheeses, one or two meats, one type of cracker, and a couple of fruits. Add a small bowl of olives and your favorite jam. You can still include the mini pumpkin for a seasonal touch.

16 oz mascarpone cheese softened
2/3 cup powdered sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract

14 oz ladyfinger cookies (Savoiardi)
1/2 cup strawberry jam or preserves (optional but delicious)
Extra strawberries for topping

In a large bowl, combine the sliced strawberries, sugar, lemon juice, and vanilla. Let sit for 15-30 minutes until juicy.

In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form. In a separate bowl, gently mix mascarpone until smooth, then fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone until light and fluffy.
Assemble the Layers:
Lightly dip each ladyfinger into the strawberry syrup (just a quick dunk, don’t soak!)Arrange a full layer of ladyfingers in the bottom of a 9×13 inch dish. You may need to cut some of the ladyfingers to fit.Spread half the mascarpone cream over the ladyfingers.Spoon strawberry jam swirls over the cream (optional but adds amazing flavor), then layer on the macerated strawberries, saving a few spoonfuls to serve on the side.Repeat the layers: dipped ladyfingers, remaining mascarpone cream, and more strawberry jam swirls for decoration on top.

Chill at least 6 hours before serving, overnight is even better! Garnish with extra sliced strawberries when ready to serve.
